Atlantis Health Plan (AHP) is moving forward on its strategy to recapitalize and pay claims. AHP, which services approximately 30,000 members within the five boroughs of New York, is set to employ a targeted growth strategy and expansion of product lines to include Medicare and Medicaid.

Atlantis Announces Recapitalization Plan

New York, NY (August 27, 2010) – Atlantis Health Plan (“Atlantis”), a physician-owned commercial managed care plan servicing small businesses in New York City, has been working diligently over the past several months on a recapitalization effort intended to return the company to solid financial footing. Atlantis is pleased to announce that it has entered into a Letter of Intent with an outside investor for a significant capital infusion. The parties are negotiating definitive agreements. The recapitalization is currently slated to close on or about November 1, 2010, contingent on certain closing conditions and subject to approval by the New York regulatory authorities.

Atlantis Supports Haiti Earthquake Relief

Dr. Jean Claude Lemoine , Chief Medical Officer of Atlantis Health Plan left this weekend to join the humanitarian efforts in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Dr. Lemoine, a native of Haiti, obtained his medical degree from the University of Haiti in 1958 and trained in General Surgery at Columbia Presbyterian/Harlem Hospital in New York. He served in the US military doing a tour of duty in Vietnam and received service medals. Dr. Lemoine will be volunteering his surgical skills to help the people of Haiti in this crisis. He is currently a senior surgeon at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York.

New York businesses to feel pain of proposed health insurance bill, expert says

A proposed plan by New York Gov. David Paterson to expand health care coverage to those up to age 29 on their parents’ plans will have less of an impact on the insurance industry than it does on individual businesses, according to a health care expert.
