A Specialist Physician is a participating physician who has agreed to provide specialty services to Atlantis Health Plan members.

Participating physicians who assume the role of Specialist Physician provide services to members only upon the appropriate prior referral by the Primary Care Physician *, and shall promptly submit to the referring physician a report of the findings and treatment of the member. In proceeding with a continuing course of treatment, including hospitalization or referral of the member to another Specialist, concurrence of the Primary Care physician must be obtained.

*Female members may obtain primary and preventive Obstetrical and Gynecological services from a qualified participating provider of such services twice per calendar year and care related to pregnancy without prior approval or referral from their Primary Care Physician.
